Spirited away

Spirited away

What do you think a coming of age movie could be?

I think a coming of age movie could be a character progressing as they age during the film.

The definition of a coming of age movie

In film, coming of age is a genre of teen films. Coming-of-age films focus on the psychological and moral growth or transition of a protagonist from youth to adulthood. Personal growth and change is an important characteristic of this genre, which relies on dialogue and emotional responses, rather than action.

Super bad

Super bad

Super bad is a coming of age film because its about two teens about to finish high school (youth to adulthood).
The protagonist Seth is represented as funny and is only interested in girls the only thing he talks about or wants is to lose his virginity.
His main goal  is to get with Jules who is one of the popular girls at a party and lies to her about having fake ids and said he will supply the whole party just to impress her. This shows how willing he is and how far he will go to get a girl to like him. His high school years were boring and he isn't  popular but after high school he expects loads of parties. He spends most of his time with his best friend Evan.

Spirited away

In spirited away a ten year old girl called moves away to a new neighbourhood which could represent the youth to adulthood because moving to a new place could be scary and you don't know if you're  going to prefer being young or old.
In the film the main character learns new things by facing the fears and by the end of the film

The blending of realism and fantasy

Spirited  away puts together real life and fantasy.
They do this by taking things from real life and putting it with something out of this world or just un explainable or impossible for example The parents in the normal world turn into pigs from eating too much food.
Chirho learns off her parents and over coming fears she always needs help from other from not being very independent.

NEA 3 Teen openings

Ferris Buller's day off  Its a linear narrative film and starts out with an opening shot of  Ferris's house(the protaganist) which is a fairly big house which suggests the wealth or what kind of neighbourhood he lives in. It catches the audiences attention very quickly because Ferris talks to the viewer by looking down the camera and gives them tips on how to skip school and lie to your parents. By talking directly to us it really catches our attention because it feels like he is talking to us. He comes off as a very likeable and witty  person to the audience which makes us invested on his day. Its set in the 80s and we can see this through mis-en-scene(hair and make-up and costume) and also the text aesthetic to open the film is very simplistic. Make-up in the 80s was very bright and colourful so from seeing the mum and sister it further shows that its set in the 80s. From Ferris letting us know how to skip school it implies that hes ...
